Summer Skin Cleansing

Elave’s range of gentle, lightweight cleansers make easy work of summertime skincare

The needs of skin changes throughout the year, but the three big skincare rules still apply: cleanse, moisturise and protect. With summer approaching, it is time to consider tweaking your regime to adapt it to the demands of the new season – and even a few small changes can make a big difference.

In winter, chill winds and a damp environment require deep hydration and regular exfoliation. In summer, the balance switches to gentle exfoliation and lighter moisturisers with hydrating ingredients. Sunscreen, which should be used every day of the year, becomes especially important to protect against UV dermal ageing.

Summer skin has a lot to deal with. Heat, changes in humidity, and radiation all dehydrate the skin – even through windows – and over time can lead to the development of fine lines, sun spots, wrinkles and sagging skin. Humid weather, on the other hand, can trigger excess oil production, leading to outbreaks of blemishes.

Dehydrated skin increases dermal sensitivity in people who already suffer from dry skin conditions like acne and eczema, which can leave the dermis looking red and sore during the summer months. Sweat, sand and sunscreen are a particularly potent combination for creating irritation, blocking pores, and causing spots.

Thorough cleansing morning and evening is an essential step

To guard against these summertime woes and protect the skin thorough cleansing, morning and evening, is an essential step.  A gentle formulation will soothe overheated skin while removing any impurities, including sunscreen, to clean pores without irritation, leaving it calm and ready for a hydrating moisturiser.

Cream cleansers are ideal for dry skin, as their thicker texture means they tends to be more hydrating. If you have oily or acne-prone skin, you may find that either a foam or gel cleanser is the best option for you. If your skin feels dry and tight, or breaks out, after using a formula, then it is not the right one for you. Other signs of inappropriate cleansing products include breakouts, dryness and fine lines, dull and rough skin, and redness, itching or prickling.

Elave Skincare cleansers omit sulfates, MI, alcohol, dyes and scents which can spark irritant reactions in sensitive Irish skin and are suitable for all skin types.

Elave Facial Cleanser with antioxidant vitamin E protects against cellular damage, clearing away make-up and impurities with causing irritation. The 250ml pump pack is a great value product which leaves skin feeling soft, soothed and rehydrated.
