Manuka Honey UMF 10+
Manuka honey is a type of honey native to New Zealand which is valued for its host of healing properties. It is produced by bees which pollinate the flowers of the Manuka bush. Manuka’s antibacterial and bacterial resistant properties, attributed to an active ingredient called methylglyoxal, set it apart from other honeys. This means that bacteria should not be able to build up a tolerance to its antibacterial effects.
Manuka honey’s antiviral, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant benefits make it excellent for protecting the skin barrier from microbial infections while helping to heal minor abrasions, soothe irritated skin, and fight acne.
UMF stands for Unique Manuka Factor, a rating which reflects the concentration of three signature compounds, MGO, DHA and leptosperin, which are found in genuine Manuka honey. To be considered potent enough to be therapeutic, Manuka honey needs a minimum rating of UMF™ 10+.
