Environmentally Friendly Business Of The Year Award

We adhere to the highest international standards – our credentials confirm it!

Gardiner Family Apothecary and our Ovelle and Elave skincare ranges are regulated and safety-tested to the highest international Pharma and ethical standards. As we are also passionate about sustainability and reducing environmental impact, we employ practices which protect our ecosystems and support the best interests of the local and global environment.

ECOCERT Cosmos Natural-to achieve this certification, the product must meet specific standards around ingredients, manufacturing, packaging, environmental management, labelling and communication. On-site audits ensure the standard continues to be met. The term ‘Natural’ means the formulation contains ingredients mainly of natural origin. There may also be some organic elements, but not enough to be certified as Cosmos Organic. Certified products must meet the guidelines of green chemistry. Product packaging and the cleaning materials used in production facilities must also meet required standards. The entire supply chain is verified to confirm the quality and integrity of the ingredients and final product.

Ovelle Coconut Oil [Ecocert Cosmos Natural] is a hypoallergenic conditioning oil for nourishing & repairing skin, scalp & hair. A traditional and trusted moisturising, protective oil, Ovelle Coconut Oil melts on the skin upon application, without leaving any residue. Easily absorbed, it moisturises deeply and thoroughly and has been shown to help improve many skin conditions

ECOCERT Cosmos Organic- the highest level of certification of the Cosmos standard. To obtain this standard, 95% of the product's plant-based ingredients must be organic, and a minimum of 20% of all ingredients must be organic (10% in rinse-off products). ‘Organic’ means ingredients grown without the use of genetically modified organisms, herbicides and synthetic fertilisers. Accreditation confirms the product is free of parabens, nanoparticles, silicone, PEG, synthetic perfumes, dyes and animal products (except those naturally produced, eg honey and beeswax). Packaging must be biodegradable or recyclable.

Oil-free- oil-free formulations hydrate the skin using ingredients such as glycerin and hyaluronic acid and feel more absorbable and lighter on the skin. Oily, acne-prone or combination skin tends to do better with oil-free products because they are less likely to cause breakouts.  Natural humectants are water magnets which pull water from the air onto the surface of your skin to keep it hydrated. They include natural glycerin, which hydrates the outer layers of the skin, and hyaluronic acid, which can bind up to 1000 times its weight in water.

PETA Cruelty-free & Vegan- the bunny symbol guarantees that our formulations are certified 100% PETA Cruelty-free. PETA - People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals - is the largest animal rights organisation in the world. We have signed their Statement of Assurance to verify we do not conduct or commission any animal tests on ingredients, formulations, or finished products, and pledge not to do so in the future. PETA Cruelty-free makes no exception for testing under REACH, China’s regulations, or any other laws. Peta Vegan certification means the formulation is made without using any animal products or by-products of any kind.

SEDEX – as a member of SEDEX, one of the world's leading ethical trade membership organisations, we adhere to ISO 14001, the International Standard for Environmental Management Systems. This guarantees our products are safety-tested to the highest international Pharma and ethical standards.

UVA & UVB Broad Spectrum Protection –UVB rays are mostly responsible for sunburn and have strong links to many types of skin cancer. Sunscreen with a high Sun Protection Factor (SPF) will help block UVB rays and prevent burning. However, SPF does not apply to UVA rays, which can penetrate window glass and are associated with skin ageing. Elave Sun broad spectrum sunscreens protect against both UVA and UVB rays and deliver Infrared Thermal Protection by using vitamins, botanicals and antioxidants to neutralise free radicals and promote repair. All Elave Sun sunscreens clearly state High Protection, UVA/UVB Broad Spectrum on the front of the tube.

Rosacea affects 1 in 10 people in Ireland and is often known as ‘The Curse of the Celts’?  It can be mistaken for acne, eczema or an allergic reaction, causes facial redness and may produce small, red, pus-filled bumps. The first signs of rosacea are a blush-like reddening which spreads across the nose, cheeks, forehead and chin, along with a burning or stinging feeling when using water or certain skincare products.
