Elave Daily Skin Defence SPF45, Skincare Product of the Year!

ElaveDaily Skin Defence SPF45, winner of the Skincare Product of the Year for the second year in a row in the 2023 IPN Awards, is your go-to formulation for everyday protection against sun damage, skin ageing, environmental pollution and free radicals.

This unique combined moisturiser and sunscreen hydrates and protects skin against environmental damage while delivering high UVA and UVB protection. An invisible zinc, non-greasy formulation enriched with antioxidant vitamins B5, C & E, it can be used under, or without, makeup. It is particularly kind to sensitive Irish skin of all types and 100% cruelty-free and vegan.

A judging panel of pharmacists from leading multiple and independent pharmacies recognised the excellence of Elave Daily Skin Defence SPF45 in the only industry awards in Ireland which showcase leaders in the Over The Counter pharmacy market. Here’s what the judges said:

‘Offers an excellent level of both sun protection and moisturisation. Its broad appeal and applicability to those with both normal and sensitive skin, along with its suitability from newborn, makes it a very versatile product.’

‘It is free from harmful chemicals, such as parabens, sulfates, and fragrances, and effectively hydrates and nourishes the skin while providing protection from UV rays and environmental stressors. Overall, a highly recommended product that meets the needs of those looking for a gentle, effective, and affordable skin care solution.’

‘Great well-known Irish skincare brand. Excellent loyalty with sensitive skincare customers in pharmacy. Brilliant to have this combination with SPF 45.’

Experts agree that about 90% of skin ageing is caused by UV damage from the sun. UVA and UVB radiation forms free radicals in the atmosphere which cause DNA damage, inflammation, immune-suppression, oxidative stress, and other serious skin  health conditions.

Damage is also caused by the free radicals produced by our own bodies, of course, but it is when our system experiences an overload of free radicals due to environmental factors that the body’s ability to counteract or detoxify their harmful effects is unbalanced.

So what exactly are ‘free radicals’?  They are tiny, unstable nano-particles which are inhaled through the nose or enter your body via skin pores. They search for human cells with healthy electrons to hook on too. When they do, they disrupt the biological pathways which accommodate healthy skin regeneration. Antioxidants in Elave Skincare formulations limit free radical production to minimise damage, reduce liver spots, calm inflammation and help combat visible signs of ageing.

To combat premature skin ageing, it is essential to use a sunscreen every day of the year, even in Ireland, and certainly from the months of March to September.  Elave Sensitive Sun SPF50+ and Elave Sensitive Sun SPF30 are allergen-free and contain both physical and chemical sunscreens to offer broad spectrum, water resistant, infrared thermal protection. The oil-free formula is enriched with botanical extracts and antioxidant vitamins B5, C & E to protect and repair.

As most of the sun damage done to our skin occurs in childhood, young ones need effective protection at all times.Elave Paediatric 50+ is a broad spectrum sunscreen which blocks out 98% of harmful UVA & UVB rays in a clean, non-irritating formula suitable for delicate young skin. This water-resistant, allergen-free formula with  advanced infrared thermal protection is paediatrician approved from newborn to shield delicate skin from harmful ultraviolet rays.

Keep your lips smooth and chap-free in the sun withElave Daily Lip Defence SPF20, an ultra-hydrating balm with broad-spectrum UVA and UVB protection.  This multi-action formula contains zinc, coconut oil, shea butter, naturally derived collagen and vitamin E to recondition, soften, smooth and protect lips while menthol gives a cooling sensation.

Finally, after sun exposure, soothe and recondition dehydrated skin with Elave Sensitive Botanical After Sun with aloe vera and cooling menthol. Extremely gentle and easily absorbed, it is a light, non-greasy formula containing lots of nourishing ingredients, including antioxidant vitamin E and natural glycerin.

Dry, sensitive Type I and Type II skin is particularly vulnerable to sun damage,
especially for those who work outdoors or enjoy outdoor sports. The UV index is
typically low enough between September and March in Ireland forSPF30 to provide
adequate coverage. If you are going on a ski trip or winter sun break, however, you
should use a sunscreen with broad spectrumSPF50.

Eczema is a dry, itchy skin condition that affects 1 in 5 babies and 1 in 12 adults in Ireland. The cold, wet, winter weather typical of this time of year is particularly challenging, because when temperatures dip skin cells dehydrate and compromise the integrity of the dermal barrier.
